XXI•Q |19| What part of your culture are you most proud of?

All in all, I think I have put together a great list of questions to help me get to know myself and to help you guys get to know me as well. There are several responses for each question and I look forward to your feedback and your responses as well. Each question poses a myriad of other questions to be answered as well.

For example, this question leads me to ask myself which culture should I refer to when answering. Black culture? Female culture? DC culture? There are so many different avenues to travel down for this.

For this post, I am going to go with the culture of being female. Of this culture, I am most proud of the Women's Suffrage Movement. Fighting for the right to vote meant so much to women in the early 1800s. Not only were women finally being seen, they were also finally being heard. Political decisions effected women, yet they had no say so in making these decisions.

Even though the movement began in the late 1800s, the right to vote for women wouldn't become an act of Congress until 1920. Over a century of laboring, fighting, marching and giving a whole fuck gave way for women to be able to have their voices heard.

As it is now 2019, just one year shy of the centennial celebration on the 19th Amendment, we now have women in congress who are leaving their footprint for other young women to follow. Women who are not afraid to be "Nasty Women" and are standing up and standing tall for women's rights all over the world. This excites me.

In one of my other posts, I mentioned that I am most empowered by being a woman. We have to endure so much, most of which is endured at a young age and here we are continually picking ourselves up off the floor, dusting ourselves off and showing up with the best version of ourselves EVERY SINGLE DAY.

This is the part of my culture that I am most proud of, what about you?

best,

aja moon
